Ghanaian singer-songwriter Derrick Oboubie Jr., better known by his stage name J.Derobie, has explained why he appears to have left the music industry.
The “Poverty” hitmaker, who took up the Reggae Dancehall Song of the Year award at the 2020 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), claims there were several reasons why he chose to keep things low-key.
In an interview with Amansan Krakye, he claimed, “I didn’t leave the stage after winning the VGMA Reggae Dancehall Song of the year in 2020, but I was on low key for some months.
He continued, “I was engaged someplace in doing one or two things, which is some further studies and more recordings and others so that’s what put me behind a little bit,” on Cape Coast-based Kastle FM.
On the Kastle Drive Show, he promised his audience, “But now I’m back and I have brought Ato Me So besides there are more things in the pipeline that I’m about to unleash.”
J.Derobie is currently signed to Mr. Eazi’s record company, emPawa Africa, and he has returned with another song that might be an afrobeat hit called “Ato Me So.”
